King City: Map to King City
King City - King Rd east of Hwy 400 and west of Hwy 11/Yonge Street. Land grants for King City, which was once called Springill (after the many springs) date back to 1797. Springhill (King City) benefited greatly with the coming of the railway and station in 1853 (now located on King Rd just east of Jane Street) which was a thriving village of 120. In the late 1880's the village was renamed King by J.W. Crossley, the local Reeve. The village boasted many fine residences, hotels, inns and stores, a number of which survive today.
